Today I woke with a heavy heart and wanted to squeeze my eyes shut to avoid greeting the day. Since Saturday the boy's fear and anger has flared as the time to return to school drew near. In spite of good intentions to walk a mindful path, concern for my child, alongside the impact of his outbursts does still, from time to time, drain my energy, and when challenges arrives after a period of more peaceful interactions it invariably catches me off-guard. I get up nonetheless, simply noting my negative self-talk, my lack of hope, step into my costume, gathering towel and warm clothes on the way out before I set off with the excited poochies that are eagerly awaiting the morning walk. Silently past bush buck grazing out on the verges then into the coastal forest, I softly start mouthing a chant that springs to mind. As I emerge on the crest of the dune pink cloud angels greet me and warm tears roll down my cheek, as nature's beauty begins to soften and soothe my emotional bruises. On the beach I Salute the Sun, surrendering to the moving meditation, with only a hint of orange peeking from behind the clouds. Following the rhythm and flow of the form, I note the shift in my energy and as I step up for the last salute, the big fat orange sun smiles at me. I move on to the rejuvenating Five Tibetan rites, followed by 24 frogs, before entering the warm ocean to cleanse and wash away any remaining worries. I head home, ready now, to greet the new day. |
